Radio Giant Clear Channel's Syndication Arm Defends Rush ...

NEW YORK - Despite a controversy that has seen advertisers and stations end their association with Rush Limbaugh, Clear Channel Communications' radio syndication arm Premiere Networks remains committed to the conservative talk host, whose show it syndicates to nearly 600 stations around the U.S., according to the Wall Street Journal.

Premiere is "committed to providing its listeners with access to a broad range of opinion and commentary without condoning or agreeing with the opinions, comments or attempts at humor expressed by on-air talent," the company said, according to the paper. "We respect the right of Mr. Limbaugh, as well as the rights of those who disagree with him, to express those opinions."

The Rush Limbaugh Radio Show has lost at least two stations and a slew of advertisers after his attack on Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke, whom he called a "slut" and "prostitute" last week for advocating insurance coverage of contraceptives. Premiere said that Limbaugh had made "an attempt at absurdist humor to illustrate his political point," but "used words that unfortunately distracted from the message he was trying to convey," according to the Journal.

The company, which estimates that the host attracts an audience of up to 20 million per week, added that Limbaugh "did the right thing on Saturday, and again [Monday] morning on his radio show, by expressing regret for his choice of words and offering his sincere and heartfelt apology."

Shucking Away in Good Spirit | Life is better on the half shell

Last Tuesday we partook in the vivaciously boozy event, Good Spirits, hosted by Edible Manhattan. An event highlighting the artistic talents of New York City?s top mixologists,? served along side specifically chosen dishes from some of New York City?s top restaurants, the creative libations and bites left us quenched and satiated.

As dedicated readers and subscribers of the Edible Magazine chain, we always look forward to the food focused events they throw throughout the year. And as much as we love a good round of cocktails, tickets were immediately purchased when we saw that one of our favorite oyster bars, Maison Premiere, would be right there on the premise, shucking away.

Held at 82 Mercer, the event space was transformed into a lively food and drink expedition. Each brand of spirit was paired with a corresponding restaurant, both enhancing the aromas and flavors of the other?s offering.? Always preferring to start with the cleanest flavors, we commenced the evening with the Cornell Oyster from Hog Neck Bay, and Bache-Gabrielsen cognac cocktail. Quite the change from our typical wine or beer, this drink gave a burst of energy to our delightfully passive bivalve. Moving on, Cadaques? Sea Urchin Terrine was a plate full of underwater creatures bursting with flavors and tamed by the smoothness of the El Buho Mezcal. Although a common dish often seen at a cocktail party, there was nothing typical about the spicy Deviled Egg from the Beagle. Giving a typical Vietnamese sandwich some Italian love, Anfora loaded its Banh Mi with Mortadella and Bolognese Bianco. And true to its name, King served a cured trout suitable for any royal highness. But our most favorite dish of the night, and one we so shamefully returned for several servings of, was served by Perry St. The Rice Cracker Crusted Tuna with a Srirachi Citrus Emulsion, was hot and cold, soft and crunchy, spicy yet delicate, and just all the right attributes to?throw our mouths into a full on dance party.

Whether ones preference sides with a good strong cocktail, a small bite of big flavors, or the combination of both, this event was full of Good Spirits and something for everyone.? We look forward to seeing what they have muddled up next year.

Sports and Recreation Football Events

Although everyone says that baseball is the great American pastime many will tell you that football is their sport of choice. We all have our teams that we cheer for and hope that they win and of course when they lose you cannot help but be a little disappointed. When it comes to sports and recreation football events there are many that you can choose from to go and participate in. Whether you want to be able to actually get out there and play or just sit back and be a spectator there is going to be something for you.

Going to a game can be some of the best fun that you have ever had. It is especially great when your team is playing against someone that you want to see get beaten and badly. This is one of those sports and recreation football events that people love to go to. When the game has something on the line, such as the championship title, you are really going to be into everything that is going on.

College football games have a different set of rules than the pros so you could really have a great time.

When the college teams play you may spot a scout in the stands who is looking for that one great player for their team. If a player is going out for a professional team than one of the most exciting sports and recreation football events that they could go to is the draft. This is where they are going to find out just who wants them and where they may end up going for a few years. Some players are actually fortunate enough to be able to end up on their home team which gives them something to be proud of.

For the younger generation, you may find that sports and recreation football events such as a summer camp where they can play and learn more about the sport is something that they are going to be more interested in.

They will get a chance to have some fun and learn all of the rules that they need to know in case they decide that they would like to play in school or even professional. Sometimes they even get a chance to meet a real player that can give them some encouragement and tell them to make sure that they finish school.

Of course no matter what age you are, if you like the sport than you are going to love it when your stadium is having a special day when you get to go and watch the team practice and even get some autographs while you are there. This is one of those sports and recreation football events that kids of all ages including adults watch for in the news so that they can get their place in line and get a ticket. Sometimes they are even free to attend which is great so that everyone gets to join in on the fun.

How to Live a Healthy Life | New Health and Fitness

New Health And Fitness.Org - Health Information You Can Use

You cannot control the family you?ve been given. But you can create your own. Lyon said that she has many clients who come from a difficult childhood where family members were abusive, physically dangerous and emotionally harmful. She said longitudinal studies show people who have been humiliated, abused or neglected ?are at a much higher risk of dying at a younger age and developing a complex chronic condition.?So how do you reap the benefits of having a supportive family if your own family continues to be abusive or toxic? Create your own. Find friends and even older people who can act as parental figures for you. ?Rather than encouraging you to, let?s say, drink to excess or use drugs, they would actually support you making healthier choices for yourself. Instead of holding you up for ridicule, this would actually be about doing something good for yourself.?

Be positive to learn the rest of this article. You?ll find them to be useful whether you?re considering figuring out more about basic health or more particular matters like thyroid essentials reviews. You never know what may happen after reading this article. The free suggestions listed here could also be simply what you?ll want to revolutionize your health routine.

Bone health is more often mentioned in relation to women?s health than men?s. But after the age of 30, men?s bone mass begins to decline. This can lead to a greater chance of suffering fractures ? and with all those softball game slides and ?touch? football tackles, that?s not something guys can really afford.

Three things that can help make your life more balanced: 1) Get your environment under control so it optimally supports your wellness; 2) Eat meals at regular times as your body thrives with this routine; 3) Remember to breathe, and spend time daily focusing on deep, relaxing breaths whenever you can

Start your day with a healthy breakfast, such as fruit juice, low-fat milk, yogurt, high fiber cereal, and fruit. People who diet high fiber foods digest slowly. As a result, the hunger will be delayed and the desire to eat fatty foods will decrease too.

It?s time to heed your partner?s complaints and get that snoring checked out. Loud, incessant snores are one of the main symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). University of Alabama researchers found that many sleep apnea sufferers also had high levels of aldosterone, a hormone that can boost blood pressure. In fact, it?s estimated that half of all people with sleep apnea have high blood pressure. Go get your self or your partner checked if you are experiencing these.

Vigorous work-outs ? when you?re breathing hard and sweating ? help your heart pump better, give you more energy and help you look and feel best. Start with a warm-up that stretches your muscles. Include 20 minutes of aerobic activity, such as running, jogging, or dancing. Follow-up with activities that help make you stronger such as push-ups or lifting weights. Then cool-down with more stretching and deep breathing.

We all know that eating fresh, homemade products are good for us, yet many of us are far too tired to be whipping up a culinary masterpiece after a hard day?s work. However, rather than falling into the trap of relying on ready to eat meals which may be lacking in nutritional value, try making your own healthy versions instead. By cooking up healthy meals in large batches at weekends, you can be sure to have plenty of healthy choices in your freezer for those days when you?re too lazy to cook.

Looking for some good message boards ... - Fitness Websites

Is there a good website/message board/web community that knows their stuff when it comes to dealing with insurance companies and what to do if your company drops you? (i.e. medicaid/disability?or other options)

I?ve done some searching but have not yet found what I?m looking for. It would be nice to be able to carry on a running conversation with knowledgeable people as questions arise. I?m totally stressed out because I have no clue what I?m doing?and I think would feel better about proceeding if I had a roadmap/ some semblence of a plan (i.e. ?if that happens?then I should do this?)

So if anyone knows of where all the best gurus/good web communities are hiding who know how limited income folks can best navigate the twists and turns of our health care system, I?d appreciate your help/suggestions. Thanks. icon smile Looking for some good message boards/websites where they know how to navigate our health care system?

Chosen Answer:

Good question but I know of no such web site. I can tell you of some resources to check, however, so time does not pass you by without insurance.
IF you just recently lost your group health insurance through no fault of your own, find another health insurance you?d like ASAP. Either contact an independent agent in your town or go to a site like ehealthinsurance.com. IF your health is basically good, consider an HSA account?use that term in your search. If not, then you may be financially safer with an HMO. IF you choose and fill out the paperwork for another plan within 80-some days of the last day of CREDITABLE group health coverage AND are not eligible for COBRA or something else, the insurer HAS to insure you under HIPAA. However, this is not necessarily great news as if you have problems, the premiums they can charge can be astronomical. Still many who are healthy can get something affordable this way.

If you are low income, you can also check here for med help?NOT insurance:
?Health Centers provide health and dental care to people of all ages, whether or not they have health insurance or the money to pay for health care.
Find the Health Center closest to you

Hill-Burton Free & Reduced Cost Care at hospitals, nursing homes and other facilities are required to provide a specific amount of free or below cost health care to people unable to pay. Eligibility is based on the size of your family and your income. You apply for Hill-Burton care at the facility where you were or will be treated.
More about Hill-Burton and find facilities in your State ?

http://www.hrsa.gov/help/default.htm

You should contact your state department of insurance to find out if your state (about 33 do) have high-risk insurance pools IF you have a med problem that makes you uninsurable through regular private insurance. Also see if they have any other programs you may qualify for?some states have lower cost programs that allow for more income than Medicaid.

As to disability, basically forget that. It does NOT work as the public, paying taxes into it, is told it does. First you can not have worked AT ALL for a year for MEDICAL REASONS?just NOT working is NOT sufficient. Second you then have to apply and you will be denied?more than 60% are regardless of merit it?s just a ?no.? Then if you?re smart, you won?t waste your time making an appeal, you?ll get a Social Security disability attorney to file for you. You will wait YEARS with NO income, no insurance. IF you get on disability, you will spend 29 MONTHS with NO insurance waiting to be eligible for Medicare.
Medicare premiums are getting jacked up tremendously and/or costs shifted on to patients. All the Michael Moore propaganda is a load. FACTS:
In the US, Medicare is going bankrupt. In 1998, Medicare premiums were .80 and in 2008 are .40?up 120%. ?Medigap? insurance is common because of the 20% co-pay required for service. Medicare HMOs are common because they reduce that burden without an extra charge in many cases. HOWEVER, many procedures which used to have no or a low co-pay NOW cost the full 20% for the HMO Medicare patient. ALSO the prescription coverage they tended to offer has been REDUCED in many cases to conform to the insane ?donut hole? coverage of the feds. Doctors are leaving Medicare because of the low and slow pay AND because the crazy government wants to ?balance? their Ponzi scheme on the backs of doctors.
?That dark cloud lurking over the shoulder of every Massachusetts physician is Medicare. If Congress does not act, doctors? payments from Medicare will be cut by about 5 percent annually, beginning next year through 2012, creating a financial hailstorm that would wreak havoc with already strained practices.

Cumulatively, the proposed cuts represent a 31 percent reduction in Medicare reimbursement. If the cuts are adjusted for practice-cost inflation, the American Medical Association says Medicare payment rates to physicians in 2013 would be less than half of what they were in 1991.?

http://www.massmed.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=vs_mar05_top&TEMPLATE=/CM/ContentDisplay.cfm&CONTENTID=11037

There?s more that you should be concerned about, but by now, you can see this is NOT a realistic option. Each year, hundreds of people DIE waiting to get on Medicare disability. That is not an exaggeration or a lie like pols like to dish out?it?s fact.
The ONLY way to speed the process is ESRD (end stage reneal disease) or convince a Social Security judge you are on the verge of death?emotionally, physically, or economically soon to be homeless?and this will take MONTHS IF you can get that heard?and that all comes only after you?ve been out of work more than a year and had your appeal rejected.
There is a ?disability? supplemental income process that is probably somewhat less involved, but most likely you could more quickly get Medicaid than that and your disability would need to be permanent for the Medicare one.
Medicaid basically requires you to be totally broke unless you scam the system like many do (check out those income guidelines).
Your official site for info is here:

http://www.cms.hhs.gov/

You want to look for lower cost health care where you are: clinics (walk ins such as at grocery, drug stores, WalMart, associated with med schools or nursing programs, or the county hospital); get a good primary care doc who WILL cut you a break (30-50%) for cash pay at the time of service and will try to write GENERIC prescriptions, etc.; consider flu shots each year?again your local grocer probably has a Clinic come through just for that for less than ?ask your doc about the ?lifetime pneumonia? shot. IF you are still insured, make sure all your vaccinations are up to date as well. Look for things like labs that come through grocery stores or such and do everything from a mammogram to coronary risk testing to allergy shots and more for a CASH pay that is a HUGE discount over what you can get otherwise.

Look for LEGIT plans to fix the hijacked system that allows government and large insurers to control our lives. Ron Paul has some legit legislation in Congress (and he is still a working doc). Otherwise, READ. Hands down BEST plan and also comprehensive is here:
QUALITY, ACCESSIBLE, AFFORDABLE health care for all.
That means preventative care (physical with follow up). Real medication (no Medicare ?donut holes? the really ill are ripped off again.) No bogus ridiculously low ?caps? on needed medical procedures. No abuse of the ER. No paying for the silly with the sniffles to go to the doc for free. No more bankruptcies over medical bills. I want THIS plan that ends abuse of the taxpayer, takes the burden off employers, provides price transparency, and ends the rip-off of the US taxpayer at the hands of greedy insurance CEOs (which has been repeatedly documented).

http://www.booklocker.com/books/3068.html

Read the PDF, not the blurb, for the bulk of the plan. Book is searchable on Amazon.com
Cassandra Nathan?s Save America, Save the World
Ends problem of uninsurABLE, uninsured, medical bankruptcies, pre-existing conditions, caps, and other nonsense and saves taxpayers a bundle. It is NOT UHC so some won?t bother to consider it. There is NO graft in it, so pols don?t like it.

Focus on Majors: Criminal Justice | Augusta Blog

-->

Focus on Criminal JusticeIf you?re a big fan of the many modern-day television shows that portray employees of the criminal justice field in action ? programs like Dexter, for instance, or Criminal Minds?- there?s a fair chance you may be considering a similar career for yourself. If so, you?re in surprisingly good company.

During the tail-end of the 1980s, for instance, law school applications famously reached record highs for the first time in 15 years due to the popularity of the NBC legal drama, L.A. Law. Some 20 years later, fans of CSI, the long-running police procedural series, have flocked en masse to forensics programs at colleges, universities and trade schools across the country.

Thankfully though, the criminal justice field today remains wide open with opportunity. As a criminal justice student, you?ll study everything from policing and legal procedures to Federal law enforcement techniques, crime lab tactics and much more. Throughout the month of March, we hope you?ll join us as we Focus on Criminal Justice.

Here?s what we have planned:

* For those of you in high school, we?ll fill you in on the sorts of courses you should be taking now in order to best prepare for a future working in criminal justice.

* We?ll also take a close look at the specific undergrad and post-grad classes you?ll need to take when majoring in any of the criminal justice fields, at a college or university.

* And since there are so many schools today offering so many different types of criminal justice majors, we?ll share some of the country?s highest-ranked college and university programs.

* Finally we will share advice from criminal justice professionals, so you can get insights from those working in the field.

To learn more about the various degrees and careers for criminal justice majors ? and to decide which higher-education path might be the wisest for you to follow ? keep reading ??

Types of Degrees for Criminal Justice Majors

Associates Degree
If you want to get out of school and into the working world as soon as possible, an associates degree might be just the thing. You?ll earn an associates degree after only two years of study, for instance. And aside from graduating with a firm grasp of the criminal justice field?s fundamentals, you?ll have also received a decent liberal arts education and some necessary science skills, which will come in handy if you eventually choose to transfer to a traditional four-year college. If you think a career in law enforcement might be in your future ? perhaps as a police officer or a corrections officer in a prison or jail ? an associates degree might serve you well.

Bachelors Degree
Earning a standard four-year bachelors degree is almost certainly the way to go, if you want your career options to be wide-open once you graduate. Many entry-level criminal justice positions require four-year degrees, especially the many jobs offered by Federal agencies. And while the legal field is home to numerous positions that don?t necessarily require a graduate law degree, you?ll almost certainly need a bachelors if you hope to climb the various legal-field ranks.

Masters Degree
Although a masters degree isn?t generally required for most criminal justice careers the extra education you?ll gain will certainly give you a much deeper understanding of the field?s various procedures, and its often-intricate research methods. A masters probably will be required, however, if you plan to teach criminal justice. Most upper-management employees working for Federal agencies will also need to hold advanced degrees. And it?s worth keeping in mind that professionals with masters degrees are more likely to receive larger paychecks than their lesser-educated co-workers.

Careers for Criminal Justice Majors
The criminal justice industry in the United States is so wide-ranging, there?s a decent chance you?ll find any number of positions that appeal to you, no matter what your interests. Here are some of the fastest-growing and most in-demand careers?in criminal justice.

Court Reporter (average pay: $ 53,270*)
Court reporters play a hugely important role in the legal system. Their job involves transcribing every last word spoken during court proceedings, whether by defense attorneys, district attorneys, witnesses or judges.

FBI Special Agent?(average pay: $ 52,638**)
FBI special agents spend their days protecting the country from threats to national security. As for the actual job description of a special agent, it?s fairly similar to that of a police detective. Federal agents, however, have jurisdiction over municipal and state police officers. Also, a typical FBI Agent?s case will cross over multiple state lines.

Forensic Science Technicians (average pay: $ 55,040*)
Forensic science technicians assist the police on criminal investigations by paying attention to the seemingly small and often hidden details. They might analyze gunshot residue or blood spatter, for instance. And they often examine DNA evidence in laboratory settings after collecting it from crime scenes.
